Dog person, or cat person?

My delightful friend Lindsey just sent me this video which I found to be a hoot and a half.  It's about a dude who has a dog-friend and a cat-friend.

So, how was your 4th of July?

I really, really enjoy the 4th of July holiday.  It is a holiday that is largely without any pressure whatsoever.  With New Year's Eve, there's the expectation that you must party hard and have the most memorable evening, which rarely happens.  Valentine's Day does nothing for me.  Thanksgiving usually brings family drama of some sort, plus it makes you fat.  Christmas is pretty nice, but you have to spend money on gifts, and you want to get people wonderful gifts because you love them, which gets expensive and stressful.  But with the 4th of July, pretty much all you have to do is sit around and do nothing all day, and then make a half hearted attempt to see some pyrotechnics.  If you miss them, no big deal - they'll be doing the same thing next year.  I had a lovely 4th this year - I hung out at home with my husband, ate some hot dogs at a cookout, and then watched the District's fireworks display from a friend's rooftop.  The 4th of July is the best!

A couple of photos in case you are sad

Are you sad?  I am very sad, to be honest, but here are a couple of photos that have been helping to lift my spirits.

My awesome friend Lindsey sent me this gem.  This hippo is totally laughing at this dweeb.

This one I found myself, somewhere on the internet, and it's just brought tons of laffs my way.  I broke it out last night at happy hour with my dear buddy Dave, and I seriously couldn't stop giggling over it.  It is a doggie who is half basset hound, half Saint Bernard.

HAHAHAHAHA!  Oh wow, it's still totally working.

I can see!

I went to the eye doctor this morning for the first time in probably 2 years.  Turns out, my eyes have gotten significantly worse in that time, and I got a new prescription for glasses and contacts.

But then I walked outside, and everything was just so sharp and crisp and WAY TOO REAL.  It's very overwhelming.  So now I'm kind of like this in reaction to everything:



And that's the story of my trip to the optometrist.

Logistics

I mostly love living in an urban area where I do not need a car - it saves me a lot of money, I don't have to drive (I hate driving and am horrible at it - just ask the bevy of mailboxes and side mirrors I've plowed into!), and I never have to worry about parking. But one annoying thing about being carless is that I am always thinking about the issue of how to transport things home, namely groceries. This sweet doggie is also faced with the challenging logistics of carrying home his foodstuffs and getting them into his house:

It's hard to beat a long weekend

I just got the marvelous news that the office is closing at 3pm on Friday! Plus we are closed on Monday for the Fourth of July (one of my very fave holidays), AND I am taking off Tuesday to spend some time with Mr. Whams. I'm going to celebrate by finding a nice park and enjoying some sunshine, just like this sweet doggie:

Life is full of obstacles

Some days, doesn't it just seem like the world is trying to throw roadblocks at you right and left? When life hands you lemons, the important thing is to keep accepting the lemons and then jumping up and down:



Of course, we don't know if the doggie made it onto the bed, but I feel certain he attained some degree of success eventually.

Something magical happened

Last night I was walking home, and something magical happened to me. I was waiting at a red light, lost in stressful thoughts, when I felt something softly brush about my ankles. I looked down, and what was it? It was the floppy ears of a basset hound, gently knocking into me as he enjoyed his evening walk.


Thank you, Mr. Hound, for brightening my day! I immediately texted Syd, even though I'm sure she already knew about the incident - her heart is made of puppies, you see. So she knows this stuff. She just senses it.

I think he might take this one! I find him right cute, though.

I woke up around 2:00am with a coughing fit (in my old age I appear to have become allergic to everything, including my own apartment), and removed myself from the bedroom so as not to wake up Sammy. Logged on to facebook, as one does, and saw a most unusual 'friend suggestion.' Usually those are either random celebrities I can't stand or people from second grade I'd much rather forget... but this time, I'm pretty sure that the new friend Facebook had found for me was the dead dog of my high school boyfriend. Seriously, Facebook? You're freaking me out.

I'm fairly sure I was still dreaming.

A Post for a Friend

One of my good friends, diva extraordinaire Bennifer McSmelvey, is about to finish his first year of law school. I'm so proud I could cry! But instead, I shall honor him with a post about his fave thing - the noble little creature known as the daschund.
