Y'all will never believe this

In addition to loving everything else, corgis also love birthdays!

I also love birthdays, and I pretty much looked just like that last night at my birthday celebration with my mother-in-law and her new/old boyfriend (that's a tale I must tell you all in a separate post, as it's a good one!).

Corgis love to celebrate with friends! I'm going to do that myself this weekend, and can't wait.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! And to any and all corgis celebrating a birthday today!

Adulthood

This week, one of my closest friends from college came to visit. He has always been a man of great eloquence. Over lunch on Wednesday he said to me:

"You look so different. You look like a grown-ass woman."

It was one of the best compliments I've ever received. THANKS PETER!

Corgi news!

Two small pieces of corgi news for you, dear readers. Buzzfeed has just posted a video of some confused corgi puppies. It is very, very good:

My pal Marla has a corgi (lucky lady!!!!!), and he recently participated in an all-corgi holiday parade! CAN YOU IMAGINE?!?!?!

What a world!

My first corgi

Anyone of my seven readers could testify to the fact that I love a corgi. The first corgi I ever met - indeed, the first one I'd ever seen or even heard of - was Ted, the dog of my dear high school friend Gordon. Ted was basically happiness in a fur covered body and stumpy ass legs, and I adored him instantly. But, as happens sometimes despite the best of intentions, Gordon and I largely lost touch for a while, and that of course meant no more Ted in my life. As we progressed through college, a number of my friends suffered the loss of their childhood pets, and one day it occured to me - Holy crap, Ted must be dead!!

Well it delights me to tell you all that Ted is NOT dead! Ted, it turns out, is alive and thriving and living in Knoxville, TN. He has a lovely life with Gordon's mom and dad and they take him on all kinds of very fun trips. Gordon sent me a photo of Ted just the other day:

LOVE YOU TED!!

Fun fact - Gordon also has a pet hedgehog named Hoggie Bear. I thought it would be gross but it is adorable. He has two cats as well, but who cares about those.

From the front lines of interspecies friendships

Here are some bear cubs whose jerk mom rejected them, but the pain is being soothed by bottle feedings and playdates with their new tiger cub pal!

I will watch this at least 5 times today. If my black heart grows 3 times with each viewing, I'll be dead by about 4pm. It's been real, readers!

A Sudden Rivalry

Well well! My dear best friend and I have found ourselves on opposite sides of a bitter divide. Our respective men are supporting different teams in the World Cup final! Syd's boyfriend is backing Holland, and Sam is all about Spain. What to do? How will our friendship survive when this chasm separates us?! I'm off to put my feelings of woe into a script for the next Lifetime Original Movie, Vuvuzelas Between Friends: The Syd and Amelia Story.

A Post for a Different Friend

My very dear friend Peter is about to finish his first year of law school! I'm so proud, I could cry! But instead, I shall honor him with a post about a movie line that, back in the day, irked the bejesus out of him.

Remember Garden State? That movie about Zach Braff having the sads because his upper middle class upbringing hadn't really paid off like he'd hoped, and also he killed his mom with the dishwasher? (Ed. note - whoops! Spoiler alert!) There was a line in that movie that really rubbed old Pete the wrong way! It happens when Zach Braff has just encountered Manic Pixie Dream Girl Natalie Portman for the first time, and he asks her what she is listening to. She replies that she's listening to The Shins... and then comes THE LINE:

"You gotta hear this one... it'll change your life."

Well, that just about made Pete lay an egg! "NO ONE WOULD EVER SAY THAT!" he bellowed. "THE SHINS ARE KIND OF CATCHY, BUT THEY ARE NOT GOING TO CHANGE ANYONE'S LIFE!"

Pete, I beg to differ. I've just gotten some breaking news from a trusted source about one Jesse Sandoval. He has recently opened a new business in Portland, selling Mexican food.

I think it's safe to say that The Shins changed his life, because he used to be their drummer, and now he sells sopapillas from a cart.

On the bright side, he seems pretty jazzed about it!
